New Developments in the Treatment of Forward Head Posture

The association of neck pain and poor posture is the subject of many recent studies. Forward head posture (FHP) is one of today’s most common posture issues.

Significant neck pain and headaches caused by forward head posture (FHP) can be eliminated with a series of ultrasound and infrared treatments in conjunction with a regimented exercise outline.

In a 2010 study, 96 participants were randomly divided into a control group and an exercise group. The study was conducted to investigate the effect of forward head posture correction techniques on pain and nerve root function.

The control group, consisting of 48 participants, received ultrasound and infrared radiation without the regimented neck exercise treatment plan along with it.

The exercise group, also consisting of 48 participants, received a (FHP) posture corrective exercise program in addition to ultrasound and infrared radiation treatments. The study was conducted over 10 weeks and included a six month follow-up.

There was a significant difference between groups at 10 weeks post-treatment. The posture corrective exercise program, in the form of stretching and strengthening exercises, proved to be more beneficial in correcting the forward head posture (FHP) in the participants.
